The Municipality remains committed to ensuring that all residents have reliable access to water and is pleased to report significant progress in stabilising the municipal water network.

While these interventions are yielding positive results, Level 4 water restrictions remain in effect and must be strictly adhered to. Residents are urged to limit water consumption to no more than 50 litres per person per day.

Encouraging progress has been achieved at the Charlesford Pump Station. Pumpset 1 has been successfully installed, commissioned, and is now fully operational. Pumpset 2 has remained operational for more than a year, although at a reduced capacity. Pumpset 3 has reached the end of its service life and is beyond repair. Plans are in place to replace it in due course.

The combined output of Pumpsets 1 and 2 is currently sufficient to meet Knysna’s daily water demand, eliminating the immediate need to augment supply from the Akkerkloof Storage Dam.

The Municipality is also addressing the storage level of the Akkerkloof Dam (see dashboard above). Akkerkloof receives water from both the Charlesford and Glebe pumping schemes. Following the installation of the new motor on Pumpset 1 at Charlesford, pumping output has been gradually increased to ensure optimal performance and long-term system stability.

In addition, a newly installed pump at the Glebe Dam Pump Station is now operational and actively pumping water into Akkerkloof, further strengthening the Municipality’s water supply system.
