Knysna has a diversity of venues: the white sand beaches, forest, mountain range, sea, lagoon & river hosting a number of events throughout all four seasons.

Through the years, Knysna has developed into a town of events and festivals. No matter the time or season you come to visit Knysna, there is always something fun and entertaining to do. From the world-renowned Knysna Oyster Festival, Simola Hillclimb, Car Shows to cultural literary events and even the popular Pink Loerie Mardi Gras, Knysna has long maintained a selection of events catering for different interests. Knysna’s natural beauty provide sport enthusiasts with a plethora of opportunities such as scenic cycles races in the forest, surfing competitions, marathons, paddling on the lagoon and hiking along the beaches.

Applying for your Event Permit as per the By-Law

Knysna Municipality has introduced a new and convenient way of applying for an event permit.

How it Works

  • Please register and create an online profile for your event on the Knysna Film & Festival portal;
  • Each event will require a unique username – we recommend using your Event Name without spaces (eg. KnysnaFestival);
  • Log in with your username and password;
  • Complete the online Event Permit Application Form and submit;
  • If you wish to list your property as a possible venue or location, you can upload and submit the property details with photos for verification on the relevant online application form;
  • If you are an Events Service Provider and would like to list your business, please register on the Knysna Film & Events online portal in order to be included in the Events Service Provider Directory;
