National Library Week activities at greater Knysna libraries

Libraries throughout the greater Knysna municipal area are ready to host a variety of activities in celebration of National Library Week, running from 18 to 24 March 2024. “The activities that have been planned all promote this year’s theme, which is Libraries Foster Social Cohesion,” said Knysna Municipal Manager Ombali Sebola. “The fun festivities all highlight the pivotal role that libraries play in promoting inclusivity and bringing communities together.”

The events that will take place in libraries throughout greater Knysna are diverse and inclusive, and are sure to interest and excite residents of all age groups, cultures and backgrounds.

The Town Library will host a vibrant Library Marketing and Orientation campaign at Memorial Square. The event aims to promote library services and foster a love for reading among all residents.

Brackenhill Library’s Around the World Reading Adventure for children aged 12 to 19 will present reading material from diverse cultures to broaden young minds.

The Grade 12 Career Expo Day at Khayalethu Library will support lifelong learning and literacy development among students through educational and awareness activities.

Members of the Rheenendal Library will be gardening at Humpty Dumpty Crèche, teaching children the importance of self-sustainability through hands-on gardening activities.

The Hornlee Library Creative Arts sessions will inspire and nurture the artistic talents of community members.

The Masifunde and Rudolf Balie Libraries will engage young learners with their fun and stimulating word search games and World Poetry Day celebrations.

The Sedgefield, Smutsville and Karatara Libraries will host computer literacy workshops to empower residents with essential skills that bridge the digital divide.
