Acting Director Planning and Development appointed

KNYSNA – THE RECENTLY vacated position of director for Planning and Development within the Knysna Municipality has been filled temporarily.

Marlene Boyce, previously the Acting Manager for Solid Waste, has been appointed as the Acting Director for Planning and Development for a period of three months, or until the position is filled. This position became available after Mr Mike Maughan-Brown resigned at the end of March.

Executive Mayor Georlene Wolmarans says: “I am pleased with this appointment of Marlene Boyce as she has been of service to Knysna for the better part of two decades. I am thrilled for her and wish her the best of luck in her new position.”

Marlene Boyce first served the people of Knysna as a public prosecutor, followed by various other roles: a co-ordinator for the Neighbourhood Revitalisation Programme, with the additional function of acting director for Strategic Services, a Compliance Officer, with the additional function of acting manager for the IDP (2011), and, most recently, in her role within Solid Waste.

She is a qualified lawyer having obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law and her L.L.B. from the University of the Western Cape, followed by a certificate in Municipal Governance & Legislation from Stellenbosch University and a Master of Arts Degree in Development Studies from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

“I believe Ms. Boyce will contribute greatly to our mutual goal of creating a Knysna where people and nature prosper,” Mayor Wolmarans concludes.
