Brand new fire engine for Knysna Fire Services

Knysna municipality has expanded its fleet by the acquisition of a R3.6 million fire engine.

Knysna Executive Mayor, Mark Willemse was delighted to receive the keys of the Fire Department’s latest addition, a new fire engine on Wednesday, 8 August.

Chairperson Community Services, Councillor Monwabisi Salaze said, “This new fire truck is a major investment for Council. It is not merely about increasing our fleet but it is improving service delivery and saving lives. Our Emergency Services attend to a wide range of emergencies including fires, road traffic collisions and specialist cases such as animal rescue, flooding incidents, water rescues and hazardous incidents”

This state of the art fire engine is a Mercedes Benz 1428, 4X4 and has a fully enclosed cab which is designed to carry six Firefighters. It is fully equipped with ladders hand tools, breathing apparatus, rescue tools, hoses just to name a few. This fire engine has a tank capacity of 3000l and 300l litres foam.

“With this latest addition to the fleet we do indeed have some of the best equipment. We also want to expand our focus on community education programmes. Fire safety in our communities cannot rest in the hands of our Firefighters alone. We plan to roll out fire education programmes to the communities within Greater Knysna,” concluded Salaze.
